Your shows are kept in this browser on this computer. Media files are shared between shows. To take a show to another computer, open it and use File, Pack show with media.

Changes here do not touch your original file. They are saved in the cue. To make a separate edited copy of the music, use Save as a new sound file.

Screens and projectors

Find the projectors

Set your laptop display to Extend, not Mirror (Windows: press Win+P, choose Extend. Mac: System Settings, Displays, turn off mirroring. Linux: display settings, join displays). Then press Find projectors so each screen window opens on the right display.

After a screen window opens, click it once to go full screen, then click back on this window. If it opens on the wrong display, drag it there first. If a screen window is closed by mistake, press Open again and it comes back with the current picture and surtitle.

Media files

TypeFileLengthSizeUsed in cuesStatus

Best formats for every browser: MP3 or M4A for sound, MP4 (H.264 video with AAC sound) for video, JPG or PNG for pictures. WAV, WebM and OGG work in most browsers. MOV files made with ProRes, and AVI files, will not play: convert them to MP4 first.

Import surtitles

Paste your surtitle script. Each surtitle becomes one cue. Add a second language if you want two lines on screen together, for example Assamese with English below.

How to use BURHA LUIT

Start a show in five steps

  1. Press My shows at the top, type a name and press Create new show. Fill in Production with the play's details, cast and crew.
  2. Press New scene for each scene of the play. Select a scene, then drag your music, videos and pictures onto the list. Each file becomes a cue in that scene.
  3. Press Import surtitles and paste your script. Each line becomes a surtitle cue.
  4. Open Screens, press Open for screen 1, move it to the projector and click it once for full screen.
  5. Switch to Run and press Space to GO. Scene headings are skipped by GO.

New to it? Open File, Open the sample show and press GO a few times.

One cue, three parts

Every cue can start a sound, show a video or picture, and change the surtitle, all on the same GO. Leave a part empty and whatever is playing carries on. Write the cue line in When to GO so the operator sees it above the GO button.

Cue options

Cue number: your own number, like 12 or 12.5. Wait before starting: the cue starts a few seconds after GO. GO next cue by itself: links cues together. Hotkey: a letter or number key plays the cue at any time, for sound effects. Colour marks cues by type. A disarmed cue is kept but skipped by GO. For a sound effect that can come at any moment, disarm the cue and give it a hotkey: GO passes it by and the key plays it.

Editing music

Select a sound cue and press Edit sound. Drag the start and end points on the waveform, set the fade in and fade out, change the level and tone, and listen before you apply. Your original file is never changed.

Moving to another laptop or browser

Use File, Pack show with media. Copy that one .luit file to the other laptop (Mac, Windows or Linux), open BURHA LUIT there and choose File, Open a show file.

A wireless presentation clicker works too: its next and back buttons send PageDown and PageUp. Its black-screen button hides the surtitles.

Esc on a projector window leaves full screen. Keep this control window in front while running the show.

Sound levels

Set each cue's level in the editor. While the show runs, use the faders under Playing now. Double-click a fader to put it back to the cue's level. The master fader and tone controls change everything together.

Show reports

Every run is timed. Production, Show reports lists each run with the time each scene started, so you can compare rehearsals and performances. Click the clock to end a run.

Browsers

BURHA LUIT runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave and Opera on Mac, Windows and Linux. Chrome and Edge give the most: they place screen windows on the projectors and let you choose the sound output inside the app. The list below shows what works in the browser you are using now.
